Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced that San Francisco is expanding the walkway for pedestrians in the Union Square area as part of a pilot project under the Better Market Street Program. Mayor Newsom’s Green Building Task Force Releases Recommendations as Transamerica Pyramid Earns LEED Gold Status

Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced that San Francisco’s Transamerica Pyramid has achieved the prestigious Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council in recognition of energy and environmental upgrades. Mayor Newsom Announces San Francisco Jobs Now Program Has Put 1200 People Back to Work

Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced that the San Francisco JOBS NOW program has used federal stimulus funds to put 1,200 San Franciscans back to work, and is seeking an additional 1,300 job participants before the funds expire in September 2010. Additionally, the Mayor outlined the JOBS NOW  marketing campaign launching this month with MUNI and other city partners, as well as his efforts to secure funding from Congress and the White House to extend the JOBS NOW program past September 2010. Mayor Newsom Announces Nissan to Bring First All-Electric Vehicle to San Francisco

Mayor Gavin Newsom Joins Elected Officials, the SFMTA and Bicycle Advocates to Announce First Steps to Implement City’s Bicycle Plan

Mayor Gavin Newsom today joined with other elected officials, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and members of the bicycle community to announce the first steps to implement the San Francisco Bicycle Plan.  On Wednesday, November 25, the Superior Court partially lifted an injunction that has since 2006 prevented almost all physical improvements to San Francisco’s bicycle network. Cisco and San Francisco Embark on ‘Sustainable 21st Century San Francisco’ Project

Cisco today signed an agreement in principle with the city of San Francisco during Mayor Gavin Newsom’s visit to Bangalore to develop a joint vision for a ‘Sustainable 21st Century San Francisco’. The agreement in principle outlines the potential for Cisco and the city to collaborate in exploring a Living Innovation Laboratory within a new United National Global Compact (UNGC) Center on the Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco, a facility that will address global warming and support social and economic innovation. Mayor Newsom Marks 5th Anniversary of Project Homeless Connect by Announcing 10,000 Homeless Have Left San Francisco’s Streets and Shelter System

Mayor Gavin Newsom today marked the 5th Anniversary of Project Homeless Connect (PHC) by announcing that since January 2004, from combined outreach and housing efforts including the Care Not Cash, Housing First, Direct Access to Housing and Homeward Bound initiatives, a total of 10,133 homeless single adults have left San Francisco streets or the city’s shelter system for permanent housing. Mayor Newsom Announces San Francisco’s H1N1/Swine Flu Vaccination Plans

Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced the initial arrival of the first major shipment of the H1N1 swine flu vaccine in San Francisco. Approximately 28,000 doses of the injectable vaccine have been delivered to the San Francisco Department of Public Health. High risk patients who get their healthcare at public health clinics will begin getting the vaccine today.
