Today, Mayor Gavin Newsom issued an Executive Directive authorizing the Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs to oversee the city’s census efforts, launched the 2010 Census Complete Count Committee, co-sponsored a resolution urging the federal government to recognize same-sex couples in the 2010 Census count, and announced plans to send a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Commerce calling for adequate local funding for outreach. Mayor Newsom Signs Legislation Improving Muni’s Hybrid Biodiesel Buses

Today Mayor Gavin Newsom signed legislation that will allow Muni, which is operated by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), to replace existing lead-acid batteries with advanced lithium-ion batteries. The Treasure Island Redevelopment Project was announced today as one among 16 founding projects of the Climate Positive Development Program, a Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) program that will support the development of large-scale urban projects that demonstrate cities can grow in ways that are "climate positive."
